Calling, microchurch and missional change

Get out of your seat and into the Story.

Rob Wegner helps churches move ordinary people into their calling, through their gifts, passions and story, and into mission where they live.

A word from Rob

For more than two decades our family's life was rooted in South Bend, where I served at Granger Community Church. Then Brian Phipps and I started writing about what we call a spiritual GPS: your gifts, your passions, your story. Following ours took us west on I-72 to Kansas City.

That move taught me what I most want every follower of Jesus to know. You were made on purpose, for a purpose, and your place in God's mission is probably closer than you think. Here you will find the books and tools I have written with friends to help you find that place, and to help churches send their people into it.

Decentralized Starfish Ecclesiology

Traditional churches operate like spiders: centralized, hierarchical, and vulnerable to collapse if the head is severed; movemental churches operate like starfish: decentralized, resilient, and capable of reproducing from any severed limb. Wegner, with Lance Ford and Alan Hirsch, demonstrates how the Holy Spirit thrives in open, decentralized architectures where authority is distributed and every disciple carries the full DNA of Jesus. A reader learns to dismantle top-down CEO command structures and build reproducing starfish networks.

The 15 Missional Tectonic Shifts

Transforming a church from an attractional institution into a missional movement requires deep, systematic realignment of language, budgets, and reporting systems. Wegner maps the 15 "tectonic shifts" that move a community from maintaining programs to equipping people, from measuring seating capacity to measuring sending capacity. A reader evaluates their church's institutional health, identifies life-support symptoms, and executes practical strategic moves that release the church into the neighborhood.

Microchurch as Full Ecclesia

A microchurch is not a glorified small group, a Bible study, or a feeder program for Sunday morning; it is the church in miniature, fully competent to worship, nurture community, and execute mission. Drawing on years of field deployment, Wegner reclaims the biblical validity of small, relationally tethered communities that meet in homes, workplaces, and community spaces. A reader learns to validate, release, and resource microchurches with full ecclesial authority without requiring professional clergy oversight.

Masterpiece Mission and The GPS Calling

Every believer has been created in Christ Jesus for a unique, one-of-a-kind "Masterpiece Mission" prepared in advance for them to walk in (Ephesians 2:10). Wegner and Brian Phipps provide the GPS discovery process, helping individuals unpack their Spiritual Gifts, Heart Passions, and Personal Story to pinpoint their specific kingdom assignment. A reader moves from being a passive consumer of religious services to an activated missionary with clear personal calling and directional grit.

The Underground City-Reaching Ecosystem

Reaching an entire city or metropolitan region cannot be accomplished by a single megachurch; it requires an underground ecosystem of multiplying microchurches filling every relational pocket. Wegner articulates the architecture of the Kansas City Underground: missionary disciple-makers planting microchurches supported by decentralized hubs and shared coaching infrastructure. A reader learns to cast a citywide vision, build an equipping canopy, and mobilize hundreds of micro-movements to reach every neighborhood and micro-culture.
